The viper was called after a German herpetologist Johann Georg Wagler, who analized and described it in the beginning of the 19th century. This Temple Viper habituates in great numbers in the Snake Temple of the island Penang, Malaysia. It has been worshipped and granted the cult status there for more then 150 years.
